"The Love Junkies" delivers high energy performances with casual, charismatic intensity
Fresh from an exhausting yet exhilarating second tour of the States, the guys from punk-grungerock outfit, The Love Junkies were finally home and enjoying sleeping in their own beds rather than Walmart carparks. But they didn’t spend too much time settling in again, announcing an Australian tour for their new singles “Nobody” and “I Had a Party Once.”
After an all ages show at The Garage the night before, the band hit Jack Rabbit Slims on Saturday the 14th of May, with FOAM, Rag N Bone and Shit Narnia supporting. It was also the first opportunity for many Junkie fans to see the new fourth member, bassist Harley Barnaby in action. The addition of Harley, who also plays bass for FOAM, has freed up Robbie Rumble to focus on guitar.
Entering the stage to the anticipating screams of a packed out floor, the Love Junkies did not fail to disappoint, delivering a high energy performance that set the room alight with their casual, charismatic intensity, unrelenting riffs and infectious tunes. The crowd was simply frenetic, a constantly transforming mosh of sweat and bodies that moved as if it was a single, impassioned organism. In particular, their latest single, “I Had A Party Once”, which was produced by lead singer Mitch McDonald and WA legend Dave Parkin, as well as 2013 release “Maybelene”, proved to be crowd favourites.
After an exhilarating performance to their adoring home fans, the band is currently performing shows in the Eastern States. But for the time being, their ‘Nobody’ tour will have to satiate the appetite of fans by providing a glimpse into what to expect from their third album, as they prepare to take some time off to work on new material, expected to be released later in the year.
