FRINGE REVIEW: Fantasy Light Yoga

Yeah yeah, Fringe is a little overwhelming. But isn't it so fun when you stumble on something that is 100% damn fine? We did on Saturday Night @ PICA for Fantasy Light Yoga

Natalie Abbott (fire), Sarah Aiken (air), Rebecca Jensen (water) and Angela Goh (earth) are Fantasy Light Yoga. A little bit deep house, a little bit stompy, a little bit Jane Fonda, a lot of whacky weird; Fantasy Light Yoga at PICA was an energetic ritual/yoga/dance/party where everyone is a participant and there were no spectators, except Catlips, cos she was there laying down the trax.

The party kicked off at 6.30pm and it got freakay pretty quicklay. Not knowing what to expect, people were sectioned off according to their star sign. We initiated with some 'no ego' exercises which made the shy people a little more comfortable. Whilst everyone moved into a safe and comfortable zone, we started working up a sweat.

Then came the smoke machines! After five or so minutes the groups maintained their cohesive nature whilst intertwining in a corroboree-like ritual. It became even more bizarre when tarpaulin was laid down and dancers were encouraged to roll around in ice to cool down, and finally moving into shavasna.

When we awoke from relaxation, we were asked to find another participant in the room and move toward them. When we approached the stranger, the girls encouraged us to let our third eyes meet. This took so many people by surprise, but I must admit it was an EYE opening experience (pun intended) - being so close and intimate with a stranger was very humbling.

A yoga life crisis for them? An engaging and enthralling performance piece for Perth.

THE 4-1-1.

THE BEST BITS: Bangin soundtrack c/o Catlips, Calorie burning workout, party vibes, PICA PICA PICA,

THE LESS GOOD BITS: Shy people may find it harder to engage.

10/10 over and out! NAMASTE
